Designing with a Mug & Music

Perfect Coffe Mug

Today I sit here with my big Perfect Coffee mug staring at the screen.
I should be able to say that I’m working so hard my mouse hand hurts
and my screen has Photoshop menus burned in.

The truth is when I start designing I focus a lot on music. I typically
waste a lot of time creating a playlist in iTunes. I need the music to
jumpstart my mood to get creative. Yeah, it may sound cheesy to some.

Sometimes it’s hard to design. From thin air you have to create something new.
Or at least create something to show a client that’s not what they want.

So, on that note I return to my Perfect mug and music… oh, and designing.

Samples from today’s “Funky” playlist:
-Time to Pretend by MGMT
-Paper Planes by M.I.A.

Well Zack, whatever it takes to get started. Continuing a project day-to-day can be hard enough, let alone a day-1 start. Reminds me of trying to start any paper in high school or college. Guess nothing motivates like a deadline!

I understand the whole iTunes playlist thing. I spend hours creating playlists and tend to skip half the songs I add.

For me, the battle usually has little to do with starting, more with finding the time, attention and motivation to finish.
