So you design or operate for popular sports like basketball, baseball or football. Then one day you get that call. It’s a sport you’ve never seen before, and it shocks you that someone actually wants to broadcast it. No matter what, you take it and then try to figure it out later.
Where do you go besides Google or Wikipedia? I think I found it and I bought it on Amazon. It’s an Astro Turf covered book named The Sports Book: The Games, The Rules, The Tactics, The Techniques.
The back of the book reads: Everything you need to know behind the rules of more than 200 of the world’s greatest sports. The authoritative inside scoop from each sport’s leading experts, conferences, leagues, and associations. Game-winning insights into the strategies and tactics of the world’s top competitors. Facts, stats, and stories behind the Olympic Games, the most spectacular sporting event on the planet.
You don’t have to read it from cover to cover because it’s setup as a reference book. So if you need to know about Korfball, just use the table of contents. (Korfball is interesting because of the opposite sex rules). It starts with an Olympics section then it’s divided into 12 chapters as sports categories.
A sport is highlighted with playing area dimension diagrams and player positions. It also explains the rules, penalties and officials’ signaling. Throughout the book it has all-time stats and trivia.
Overall it’s a quick reference for 200 sports that can come in handy when you accept that unique sports gig. You may even learn something about your favorite sport.
